UP RISING IN EGYPT

"Go down Moses, way down in Egypt land. Tell ole Pharoah to let my people go."
Is it just me or does anyone else find it truly amazing that the last week is the first that we are hearing of discontent in Egypt. It is almost as though all of a sudden someone got an idea that they wanted to be "free." I thought that they were already free. What is really going on and for how long has it been going on? How long has this disgruntled spirit been erupting in Egypt? How long has our country been giving them millions of dollars in aid? And what the HELL for? We are having all kinds of financial problems and woes in America. But we always seem to have enough money to prop up other countries' militaries. I know that it is in the name of national security. But, if we just shored up our own military with the money we give away each year to Afghanistan, Egypt and whoever else, then no one would dare think to cross our borders.

Should Parents Spy on Children?

As part of my morning routine, I listen to CNN news and watch when I can while preparing to leave for work. On this particular morning, CNN featured a story of a gentleman who has prepared a CD on how to spy on your children. He went into detail about possible hiding places for drugs and even small weapons. Hmmm? I thought. This looks more like a scene from a James Bond movie than someone in their teen's room. Has my children ever hidden drugs for themselves or others right under my nose and I didn't have a clue? Have they ever had a weapon for whatever the reason in their possession without me ever being the wiser? The possibility exist because of human nature alone and our desire at times to walk on the wild side. All I can really say is I really don't know and for that matter may never know unless I now ask the soon to be 17, 29, 25, 22 year old twins  have they ever done such a thing? Did I go through their things at times when they were not home? Yes I did. Did I ever find anything that was most disturbing? No I did not. Perhaps they were children who dared not cross me or perhaps they were better at hiding than I was at seeking. Perhaps they were children who tried as best they could to represent the values that I taught them. Perhaps they were just lucky and never got caught. Nonetheless, for the most part, while I did trust them, I felt it my responsibility to protect them from poor choices and decisions until such time they reached the age of legal accountability. From that point, I would simply keep praying for them daily. Should a parent spy? Never did I consider what I did spying. It was standard procedure and my children were well aware that the possibility existed at anytime. Sometimes they were even present for the shake down. Remember those Saturday mornings when we cleaned out every nook and cranny in the room?

To Die or Not to Die?

If you are unaware of what transpired in Arizona early January 2011 with the shooting of a U.S. Congressman and many others, then you must have been visiting Mars at the time. The 22 year old gunman, Jared Loughner, now possibly facing the death penalty for his drastic deeds committed on that dark day in Arizona, poses to mount a defense of insanity.

If the defense works then Loughner would face placement in a mental health facility under the facade of incarceration. But if convicted of capital murder, including that of a 9 year old little girl, then he could face the death penalty.

Many people have probably asked who needs a trial? Everyone knows he did it. Just put him in prison and throw away the key. Others have no doubt uttered fry his ass and rid the world of the likes of this evil. But we know that our justice system is based on the fundamental of innocent until proven guilty.

Personally, I would like to see the death penalty remain in place in this particular case. Every life that was lost in Arizona was precious. Every life that is taken by an act of murder at anytime, under any circumstance, is precious. And while I do not agree to a blanket of death penalty for all murder, my heart is especially affected by the death of the 9 year old whose
life was cut so short.

AFTERWARDS

I SAT DOWN.
I STARTED TO WRITE.
I WANTED TO WRITE.
I NEEDED TO WRITE.
I NEEDED TO CLEAR MY HEAD AND MY HEART.
I NEEDED TO START FRESH, TO START CLEAN.
I NEEDED TO BE EMPTY AND THEN FULL.
I NEEDED SPACE.
ALL OF MY SPACE WAS CROWDED.
THERE WERE TOO MANY PEOPLE, TOO MANY EVENTS,
TOO MANY MEMORIES IN MY MIND.
THERE WERE DREAMS AND HOPES AND LOADS OF TEARS.
BUT THEY WERE NOT FLOWING TEARS.
I HAD CRIED ALL THAT I COULD CRY.
BUT I NEEDED TO CRY MORE.
I NEEDED TO CRY AGAIN.
I NEEDED TO BE HEARD.
BUT I NEEDED MY PRIVACY.
I WANTED TO LAUGH ALONE
AND THEN,
WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
I THOUGHT:
“YOU KNOW, I HAVE NEVER LAUGHTED ALONE.”
IT WAS TIME.
THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY,
THE PERFECT REASON TO HOLD ON AND TO LET GO.
I NEEDED TO FOCUS, BUT NOT JUST YET.
I WANTED TO KNOW HOW I FELT, BUT I COULD NOT EXPRESS IT.
TOO MANY EMOTIONS, TOO MANY FEELINGS FOR NOW.
I NEEDED TO CLEAR THEM ALL UP…BUT…
ONE AT A TIME.
STEP THIS WAY…BUT…
ONLY ONE OF YOU AT A TIME.
I LOOKED AROUND; AND EVERYTHING THAT I SAW
REEKED OF TRADITION.
I DID NOT WANT TRADITION.
IT SMELLED OF SOMEONE ELSE’S MEMORIES.
I DID NOT WANT THEIR MEMORIES.
I WANTED MY OWN.
SOME HOW I KNEW THAT I COULD FIND THEM.
MY OWN MEMORIES I MEAN.
SOMEHOW I KNEW THAT I COULD HAVE THEM.
AND IT EXCTED ME. IT MOTIVATED ME.

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER

Some say that age is just a number and I agree with them.  In politics it is the number that can change the world. If you are accessing this blog and you are at least 18 years old and not registered to vote or registered to vote
and do not vote then your age is just a number.

So, to make it more than just a number, engage in the right that some fought and died for and others enjoy the benefits from. Age is just a number that can change the nation if you will find it important to exercise your right to vote each time that there is an election in this nation. No matter what your political views or fave politicians...please register to vote. Remember 2012 will be here before you know it.

A BLAST FROM MY PAST

Welcome to our house in the Morning

Today I woke to the chimes on the alarm clock.  My daughter had set for 5:00 a.m.  However, the clock was in my room and to far from her room for her to have ever heard it.  Was it designed for the clock to wake me, so that I could wake her?  Does she wake easier to the sound of my voice rather than the chime of the clock?  I have offered numerous times for her to TAKE THE CLOCK into her room. She graciously defers each time to leave it with me.  I wonder why?  Then I wonder why I don’t just move it myself? Is it that I like the idea of her needing me still?  Am I somehow dependent on her dependence?  Would that make me co-dependent? I wonder.  Well, I am not sure if tomorrow the same will occur.  I am not sure that by the end of the day I will even remember that I wondered about all of this.  But for now, I ponder.

Did God give me breath to day so that I could be here to wake my 16 year old twins for school?  Is his design for their lives greater than that of mine? Well, there is yet another daughter.  But she is a mere 11 years old.  Amidst the hustle and bustle of the morning crowd, she remained asleep.  Because I woke her late, she missed the bus to school.  Since my 19 year old had blown the motor in his car several weeks ago, I had to let him use my car to go to school.  He’s a college student and must travel some 24 miles to school each day.  Well, anyway, I could not take her to school because he had to leave early enough to drop me at work and to make it to class in time.  Its finals and you can’t be late.  It was still too early for my 11 year old to be dropped at school.  But even so, there was not enough time to take her to school, me to work and get him to class before the doors locked.  So, she came to work with me. I have the greatest friends in the world who happen to be my co-workers. I knew that one of them would take her for me.  Despite the soaring price of gas and the demands that their own family puts upon them, I just knew hat someone would be willing to help a sista out.

I understood why my daughter was very sleepy and did not wake on her own as she sometimes does.  We had arrived home late the evening before, somewhere around midnight from a church trip that required 3.5 hours of return travel.  I was really feeling her.  I started to let her stay home from school after missing the bus.  But I saw that MAMA don’t leave me here look in her eyes and I just could not do it.

Poem About Girlfriends!

>by VoluptuousVet Williams on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 8:01am
OUR New Motto for 2011!! Start it early!!!
A Poem about our girlfriends.
> Someone will always be prettier.
> Someone will always be smarter.
> Some of their houses will be bigger.
> Some will drive a better car.
> Their children will do better in school.
> And their husband will fix more things around the house.
> So let it go, and love you and your circumstances.
> Think about it...
> The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.
> The most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have
> children.
> The richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the clothes ~
> might be lonely.
> And the Word says, 'If I have not Love, I am nothing.' So, again, love
> you.
> Love WHO you are.
> Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say, 'I am too Blessed
> to be Stressed and too Anointed, to be Disappointed!'
> 'Winners make things happen~~ Losers let things happen.'
> Be 'Blessed' Ladies and pass this on to encourage another woman.
> 'To the world you might be one person, to me you are special!

LIFE

Life
Life is a series of relationships.
Some you choose...
Some choose you...
But in all of them, it is how you
treat others that determines their
worth to you.

YES, You Can.....

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

It is a fact that we all have trouble, but trouble does not have to have you.  The fact is that we cannot remove ourselves from every situation that causes stress.  You cannot remove yourself from the responsibility of home, parenting, work, relationships or school.  However, you can handle it.  Stress can be handled.  Stress must be handled.  Why?  Because stress left unchecked can cause serious health and emotional problems.  In other words, stress can mess up your body and your mind.

Before you can really handle stress, you must first know what it is.  Stress can be defined as a physical, chemical or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension.  Stress comes as a result of what we put upon ourselves or what we allow others to put on us.  Another important factor in dealing with stress is understanding that stress has nothing to do with an event or circumstance or situation.  Rather, stress has to do with your perspective of the event, circumstance or situation.  What you believe about the event, circumstance or situation will determine whether or not it causes you to be stressed.  You can handle stress by changing your perspective of a situation.  Where you use to tell yourself that the situation is going to be stressful, began to tell yourself that you can handle it.  There is power in what you say about your situation.

Finally, you must learn to cast your cares on Jesus.  Why?  Because He cares for you.  As you can see, there is no scientific answer to handling your stress.  It is very simple.  You must change your habits.  If we can, remove ourselves from stressful situations.  If we cannot remove ourselves, then change how we view the situation and give the rest to Jesus.  Paul tells us in II Corinthians 4: 8, 9 that we are troubled on every side, yet not distressed. We are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken. Cast down but not destroyed.  In other words, you can handle the stress of life.

One Step FORWARD, and TWO Steps BACK!

Today I received what I would describe as one of the most offensive, insulting and degrading text messages from a well intentioned female friend. I will not describe the details of the message as I do not want to pass on what I myself was offended by. But I will give some general overview of what the message held, only so much as it will take to get my point across.  The message included some pray which asked the "Lord" for eternal beauty with hopes of gravity never having an effect. Well, Marilyn Monroe had eternal beauty as she died very young.  Aaliyah, an up and coming musical artist had eternal beauty, dying by the tender age of 25 years old. You get my point. The message went on to give women tips on what things to extract from a man in order to have all of her needs met.  It even suggested that you have multiple partners that were unaware of each other to ensure that none of your plans were interrupted.  That is about all that I can say of the message without becoming nauseated. It was suggested that I find this amusing. But that was far from what I found.  How long will woman sell our souls for the next hair do, the pedicure, manicure, new dress, new car, etc. etc. bought by someone other than us or our husband.  I am not apart of the club that says get everything that you can out of a man since that is what he is there for. I am not that woman and I am not a member of that sisterhood. I don't think that it is okay for women to be the mistress to a married man because he supplies her with niceties and at times, great wealth. Do what you like but don't invite me to your party. I am not humored when I hear women say, "girl, I don't care what he does as long as he brings his check home, or when I hear men reference women as perpetual shoppers with no other meaning for their lives than chasing their next fix at the newest mall in town.  But this is more about what we as women do to ourselves in perpetuating stereotypes and painting the  picture of a very needy, brainless idiot who can be pacified by the material things that men buy them and the hope for eternal beauty.   I deleted the message without passing it on to another women and dare suggest to her that the contents were either funny or relevant to her life.....

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the Republican base in the house has plans to overturn the Health Care Bill prior to President Obama's State of the Union Address?  Did you know that a baby was recently turned down for coverage because he weighed in the 98 percentile for babies his age.  The insurance company called it a pre existing condition. Did you know that another baby was turned down for coverage because he was to skinny?  Again called a pre existing condition? Did you know that the Birthers are still trying to prove that President Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States?  What the HELL is really going on?
